Experts know that there are big differences in the quality of tweezers. Even after countless gripping operations, the best tweezers still grip precisely parallel to each other and the tips lock together perfectly. The intended use influences the choice of the shape of the forceps tip and the manufacturing material. Good tweezer tips are available in different sizes or they can have claws, rounded edges or similar.
But which tweezers are recommended for which areas of application?

Tweezers - Application & use
Choosing the right devices can noticeably simplify work processes in gemmology and significantly increase the quality of the results. Particularly in the area of tweezers, small design differences often make a big difference. Every Application has individual requirements – and KRÜSS offers the right solutions for precisely this.

Tweezers with larger tips, size LARGE
Tweezers with the tip size LARGE have long, narrow handles and a low gripping tension that reacts to little pressure. They are generally used when something larger gemstones are to be positioned very accurately. For example, when measuring the refractive index with the Refractometer necessary. The refractive index is an important parameter for determining the identity of gemstones and precious stones as well as syntheses and imitations.
The LARGE precision tweezers are also often used when working under a stereo microscope. Especially when stones are to be turned in immersion liquid, it is important to be able to grip the gemstones precisely. The extra rounded tips prevent damage to the stones and guarantee excellent sensitivity – even when the work is carried out over a long duration.
Tweezers with medium-fine tips, size MEDIUM
The precision tweezers with medium-fine tips, size MEDIUM, have a grooved finger profile. They offer a secure hold and a good grip function for finer work, even with smaller stones. These tweezers are very suitable if stones are to be placed precisely, as is necessary in investigations with the polariscope, for example. The medium-fine rounded and flexible movable tips prevent damage to gemstone surfaces. In the stainless steel version, they are robust, non-magnetic and rust-free.
Tweezers with fine tips, size FINE
These fine tweezers are very suitable for gripping fine gemstones or when stones need to be placed in small, hard-to-reach settings. The very fine tip has also proven its worth when working with the diamond measuring device: It allows even the smallest stone sizes to be easily positioned in the device and diamond tests to be carried out.
Claw tweezers with spring arm function
At the goldsmith’s, jeweller’s or watchmaker’s often very small parts, such as mini-screws and other small workpieces, need to be gripped. Claw tweezersare often used for those purposes. They enable precise picking up and the stones are tightly gripped with the claw. These tweezers can also be used to turn stones during the investigation, allowing an excellent view from all angles. Claw tweezers are also well suited when sorting and sifting gemstone lots. They are very convenient for picking up and sorting even very small stones or larger stone lots.
Tweezers with locking function
These special tweezers are ideal when stones need to be rotated for examination in front of gemmological devices, such as when viewing through a loupe or analyzing with a dichroscope. If jewellers or gemstone traders are having acustomer meeting and they want to allow clients a direct, personal look at gemstones, then the tweezers withlocking function are an ideal tool. The stone is firmlymounted by the forceps and can be handed back and forth very easily while talking with the customer. Thelocking function and the long handle enable precise work even near a source of intense heat. They are often used when workpieces have to be fixed during soldering or welding. As a rule, tweezers made of titanium are also used; they are perfect for use at high temperatures.
